St. Jude Children’s Hospital Celebrates 50 years, By John R. Barlow, Minneapolis

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, possibly one of the most renowned medical centers in the world, is celebrating 50 years of service this year. Founded in 1962 by entertainer Danny Thomas for the purpose of preventing fatal childhood diseases through research and specialized medical care, the hospital has grown exponentially over the years and has made significant contributions to pediatric research. In 1999 St. Jude expanded its facilities, a $1 billion building project that resulted in doubling the size and scope of its resources, adding an onsite pediatric research center, and a new Department of Immunology. Since that time St. Jude’s has continued its focus on treating pediatric cancer and its related complications, and researching gene therapy. In the future hospital leaders hope to include more research on infectious diseases and genetic disorders.

A former private investigator, John R. Barlow currently owns the Minneapolis based construction company Blueprint Builders, LLC. John R. Mr. Barlow supports several non-profit organizations in his community of Minneapolis, including St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
